What Is The Gospel?
The Gospel: What God Has Done and the Life He Now Calls Us Into
The Story Begins with the Triune God
Before anything was created, God eternally existed as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — one God in three Persons, living in perfect love, joy, and fellowship.
God did not create because He was lonely or lacking. He created to share His life.
Human beings were made in His image — created to live in loyal love toward Him, reflecting His character in the world. We were made for communion with the Father, through the Son, in the Spirit.
But humanity rebelled.
Instead of loyal love, we gave God distrust. Instead of worship, we chose autonomy. Sin is not merely breaking rules — it is breaking covenant loyalty with our Creator. The result was death, corruption, and exile from the fellowship we were made for.
God’s Promise to Restore What Was Lost
From the beginning, God promised He would act.
Throughout Israel’s history, God formed a covenant people. He called them to loyal love — to trust Him as King. Yet Israel, like Adam, failed. The story of Scripture reveals a deep truth:
Humanity cannot save itself. Covenant unfaithfulness runs too deep.
So God Himself came.
The Work of Jesus Christ
Jesus of Nazareth is not merely a teacher or moral example. He is the eternal Son of God in the flesh.
He came as:
- The true Adam who remained faithful
- The true Israelite who kept covenant
- The obedient Son who trusted the Father completely
- The King who inaugurates God’s kingdom
Where we were disloyal, He was loyal. Where we distrusted, He trusted. Where we sinned, He obeyed.
And then He went to the cross.
The cross was not an accident. It was the climax of God’s redemptive plan.
On the cross:
- Jesus bore the curse of covenant unfaithfulness.
- He absorbed the judgment sin deserves.
- He defeated the powers of sin, death, and the devil.
- He acted as our faithful representative.
Then He rose bodily from the dead.
The resurrection is God’s declaration:
- Sin has been dealt with.
- Death has been defeated.
- Jesus is Lord.
- A new creation has begun.
The gospel is this: Jesus the Messiah has accomplished redemption. The decisive victory has already been won.
What Is Required of Us? Believing Loyalty
The proper response to this King is not mere intellectual agreement.
Biblical “faith” is covenantal — it is believing loyalty.
To believe in Jesus means:
- To trust that He truly is Lord
- To rely on His finished work, not your own
- To renounce rival allegiances
- To give Him your loyal obedience
We are not saved by our works. We are saved by His work.
But the salvation He brings creates a new allegiance.
We do not earn our place in His kingdom. We receive it — and then we live as faithful citizens of it.
Believing loyalty means: “I entrust myself to this King, and I follow Him.”
Union and Fellowship with the Triune God
Salvation is not merely forgiveness of sins.
It is participation in the life of God.
Through Christ:
- We are reconciled to the Father.
- We are united to the Son.
- We are indwelt by the Holy Spirit.
The Father adopts us. The Son shares His righteousness and life with us. The Spirit brings us into communion with God.
This is not abstract theology — it is living fellowship.
You are brought into:
- The Father’s love
- The Son’s victory
- The Spirit’s transforming presence
Eternal life begins now — knowing the only true God and Jesus Christ whom He has sent (John 17:3).
The Invitation
The gospel is an announcement:
Jesus Christ is Lord. He has conquered sin and death. He reigns as King.
And the invitation is this:
Turn from rival loyalties. Entrust yourself to Him. Give Him your believing allegiance. Enter into fellowship with the Triune God.
You are not invited into mere religion. You are invited into restored communion with the Father, through the Son, by the Spirit.
The King has acted. The victory is accomplished. The door is open.
Will you give Him your loyal trust?
